About the author

Since I can remember spirituality has always been a subject of deep interest for me. In my enduring quest to find and realize God, I have walked many paths in search of the ultimate Truth, interacted with many like-minded aspirants, read numerous spiritual and inspirational books and spent uncountable hours introspecting and questioning. I was strongly influenced by the lives of saints, heroes and great characters from history – people who had an indomitable spirit and those men who never gave up. Over the years, all that I have learnt and imbibed on this ever-new, ever-fresh path to God has been systematically engrained in my mind, but it never found an opportunity to express itself.

In Rameshwaram, climbing the steps of the temple of Lord Rama. It is here that Hanuman climbed upto this small hill to take a view of the land and the sea in order to map the route to Sri Lanka before making the bridge in the Indian Ocean..

Prior to one of her birthdays in May 2008, my loving daughter Mandira, made a sweet request to me for “a road map to go through life” as a birthday present. That’s when I decided to put into writing some of my key lessons in spiritual awakening and learning which I felt would act as a guiding light for her now and later. That’s how this blog came into being.

In its present form, the blog has been divided into six sections A,B,C,D,E and F.

Celebrate Life was primarily addressed to my daughter and was written from May 2008 to May 2009. Posts in this section are of  preparatory level. The last 4 posts in this section are crucial as they form the crux of all that has been mentioned in the preceding posts. They summarize the aim and purpose of spirituality and the unfolding and evolution of our Spirit.

The section Door to heaven was started in August 2009. This contains posts of a more advanced nature. You may therefore feel the need to refer back to some posts written in Celebrate Life to get a better understanding of what is being written currently. In many cases you will find that the posts have been written in a sequential manner and this will be indicated in the title. Each post is however, complete in itself and can be read independently as well.  I have tried to keep my writing style simple and easy to follow as I believe simplicity has its own charm and beauty.

Segment C  titiled Life Sacred has references and reflections of my pilgrimage to holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar in July and Aug of 2010. It was wrapped up on 10th of Sept’11 with the post ‘Why is it mandatory to have a Divine Guru-I & II? I had touched upon topics of Consciousness and SuperConsciousness as well as our relation with Mother Earth. The post ‘The state of Super Consciousness-II’ has the biography of Shri Mahavatar Babaji and should interest all the devotees and disciples of his.

They are more thought provoking and reflective in nature. Hope you will savour them and realize the eternal truths embedded in them. They are aimed at advancing seekers and serious ones who wish to know and unfold undiluted  fragrance from the  lotus-petals of eternal knowledge and truth.

Segment D titled ‘Our lost rich heritage’   began on 10.11.11 . This segment is about reviving our past lost rich heritage from the spiritual view point. The beginners can refer the home page and the first three articles titled ‘Our lost rich heritageI, II & III to get started for this particular segment. Part-I has many visuals of the heritage sites I visited and the later part, part- II pays more attention to knowedge of occultism, death,  life after death and reincarnation and how to use this knowledge to enhance our future lives. The last posts are the posts which describe how I made an unsuccessful attempt to meet Shri Mahavatar Babaji at Badrinath mountains and my spiritual evolution in this whole process. The posts in the end of this segment are full of illumination.

Segment-E started on 10.10.12 is called New Light, New Life has the first post with the same title. The next three posts are a continuation of my experiences and higher illumination after the foiled voyage to Babaji’s Badrinath Satopanth Ashram and are titled ‘I get a new life, a new light in Badrinath-I, II & III.

The blog has made a shift at this juncture with the post ‘A foreword before we take a new turn into our future spiritual training on this website.’

The focus shifts from me to you and there are posts which are full of soul searching and it is about finding your soul. They begin with ‘Who are you?’- I, II & III.

On 14.12.13 after a gap of three months, I restarted blogging after the previous segment was concluded and gave the name ‘God Within’ to the segment F. It is going on and at the appropriate time shall be concluded like before afetr about ten months or so.

This segment is going to contain topics covering and touching upon the time frame of millions or thousands of millions ago. The very ancient rishis or sages who had divine illumination at that time did not perish. They are still active and alive in the astral skies and are involved in the process of helping the sincere and deserving aspirants and devotees, mostly hidingly from their abode. Through mental telepathy in my meditations they are giving me rare insights which I share with people through my posts.

The level of spiritual knowledge in this segment will be of Prabhutva gyan or very blazing knowledge. It is meant for those people who have devotion and trust in themselves and the enlightened Teachers and are willing to accept the given knowledge and counsel with humility and love.

It was only with the blessings and guidance of His Holiness Sri Mahavatar Babaji, my Param Guru that I have been able to write in an uninterrupted flow. Many a times, He has told me subtly through mediums like intuition, dreams, clairvoyance, visions and telepathy about what to write. To write the posts that appear here, I have gone through periods of deep meditation, contemplation and great learning as well. Collecting all the knowledge that He bestows on me and encapsulating it in a concentrated form, has improved my concentration, ability to ponder over topics over extended periods of time and retention power tremendously. As I move along writing this blog, I feel grateful to have been bestowed with such blessings that have helped me touch new spiritual heights and deepened my knowledge of the worlds unseen.

I earnestly bow at His Lotus feet with all my gratitude and devotion. His divine nature and continuous spiritual guidance is the force behind my writing. I owe every word that I write to the Mahatma. Without His compassionate Grace and benevolence, my life would not have shaped up the way it has today.(Read –The way to surmount obstacles -I How to surmount obstacles-II)

Babaji’s nature is very reclusive. He prefers to work from behind the scenes in silence and  when He deems fit, he discreetly reveals himself to the devotees in many ways. My blog reflects his mission, his views on world affairs, humanity, sadhana, tapasya (spiritual efforts and penance) and the power and role of a Guru. Specific posts on Babaji-The Light of the world Sri Mahavatar Babaji-I & II, The process of liberation, Our lives are in our hands-II , The state of Super Consciousness-I.  Those of you interested in his life history may read The state of Super Consciousness-II

And those of you who are new, kindly refer chapter 33 from Autobiography of a Yogi by Shri Paramhansa Yogananda-Babaji, the yogi Christ of India.

Shri Mahavatar Babaji, my Param Guru

I hope that through these posts I am able to deliver what was asked of me. If there are any shortcomings, they are mine. Whatever is benevolent and beautiful, it is His.

If like me you too are a spiritual seeker trudging along the path of sadhana and tapas and wish to compare notes, then please drop me a line at spiritinlife@gmail.com or leave me a comment on the post.

Since 31.12.13, short posts on FaceBook are also published, those interested may please visit  https://www.facebook.com/sarika.nagrath

With unconditional love from Babaji to all the readers.

My dear Shiney. We were destined to meet as we are definitly connected in some ways. I am glad I have found another Mandira in you, you are always welcome.
My very warm and hearty wishes for you for this year and always.
Work hard but in between take some moments off to connect yourself to your true inner self. Peace originates from there. Forgive people and don’t expect anything from them. Share the fountain of love that you have flowing in you.
Take care and stay in touch. Lots of love. Saruma

It was “just out of nowhere” that you chanced on my blog and it gave me a chance to read some of the gems that you have posted on your blog.

I am fortunate that spirituality has been an integral part of my life too and everyday of my life is a miracle and an example of divine grace flowing through.

Your post has given me a chance to read the experiences of a fellow traveller…and I am richer at the end of it.

    With gratitude

It sometimes becomes difficult to even address or formulate sentences with some people. I don’t know what more to say to you except that your words and thoughts have humbled me. I know that a true sadhak will feel completely drenched with love whereever God’s name is recited in any form. What I say here is not only gyan but a lot of bhakti, bhakti for guru, god and everything else. Some sensitive souls can sense it! May God bless you and me in our continous efforts to become one with Him. May God bestow peace and devotion to all of us on this divine path.

    Namaste Sarika,

I came across your blog for the first time today while searching for Mahavtar Babajee. Thank you for such wonderful words of wisdom and God. Thank you indeed. I will look forward to reading more.

    • spiritinlife says:

Manishi, like so many other devotees and disciples of Mahavatar Babaji, you are also welcome in his large family.I am grateful to you for reading my blog.

  7. Manishi says:

    Greetings Sarika,

While going through your blog, I noticed you have passed through Kathmandu, where I live. I would have loved to meet you.

After reading Autobiography of a Yogi, something about Mahavtar Babaji just enthralled me. I immediately printed his picture and have since been meditating in front of his picture.

You are so blessed that you have experienced him several times.

    Warm regards,

  8. spiritinlife says:

Thanks Manishi, indeed we are blessed if we are able to find Mahavatar Babaji or else he finds us. It is one and the same thing. If we are destined to meet him, the ways are many.

AOY is a timeless spiritual classic.Read it as many times as you can, there is something very extraordinary about it.

Meditating in front of Babaji’s photo will take you far. Connect in mind and spirit with him and discover his omnipresent nature. Try hard to take off your mind from fruitless activities and converstations in normal life. Babaji is the most humble soul that one can imagine, emulate him.

(Let me know when did you read AOY)

  9. Manishi says:

    Dear Sarika,

I read your email, and I instantly experienced some sort of energy, love, peace and harmony that totally rejuvenated my body and gave me hope that sun will shine in my backyard someday.

Yes, I am going through the most difficult time of my life, mainly health wise. But over the time I have learned to accept the worst and here I am coping and learning to get used to this new life. At this point it seems no human hand can help me, only devine intervention can heal me.

So I keep praying hoping for the best. Funny thing, all bad things started happening after I became more devoted to god. So may be the worst is for the best.

I first came across AOY in 1997 after I finished my college. I read few pages and stopped reading. Then, around 2005, I presented a copy to my father on Father’s Day. After he finished reading I read it thoroughly, it was like a stepping stone to the devine world. After that I read all religious books I could find, and kept on wondering.

I just finished reading AOY one more time and this time it seems as if Mahavtar Babaji is asking me to meditate and seek his help. So between work and being a very good dad to a 5 year old kid, I meditate whenever I get time, but I make sure I do it every day. I know he will shower his love and blessings on me.

Thanks for your words of wisdom and encouragement.

    • spiritinlife says:

Hello Manishi, I have not written any email to you, have replied only to your comments. Anyhow, read the posts carefully and make your own notes. Practice some of these things in your life and transform yourself to the highest ideals.

    • spiritinlife says:

AOY is Autobiography of a yogi -a book by Sri Paramhansa Yogananda, who took Kriya Yoga to the west. It is a spiritual classic and a guide for all sincere seekers. In this Yoganandaji has written about his spiritual experiences with many great Masters and his journey to the West, his life with his own Guru in the hermitage, his training. And much, much more….

Where do you live? Do you initiate others into the path of Kriya Yoga? I have read Autobiography of a Yogi and have deep interest towards the spiritual world, but I have not been blessed yet to be initiated into Kriya Yoga. The worldly requirements (karma maybe) has kept me away from it till date. Do guide me.
    Nanda Kishore

    • spiritinlife says:

Nanda Kishoreji, I live in Mumbai. Though I am a direct disciple of Shri Mahavatar Babaji, I do not initiate others in Kriya Yoga.
Babaji has carved out a definite path for me where I write on the blog and do meditation and karmayoga. Those who run short of time can read this blog, meditate on Babaji and do japa, mental chanting. You can do the same.
YSS or Yogada Satsanga Society of India by Paramhansa Yoganandji is an authentic place for learning Kriya and meditation.

Maheshji, welcome on this blog. The family of Shri Mahavatar Babaji seems to be growing larger every day more so in Ahemdabad these days.
A lot of my time gets consumed in maintaining this blog and not much is left to search for other useful sites. I am sure there may be many but I cannot suggest any one which could add to your bank of knowledge. However, if you find something useful here, I shall be glad. Regards Sarika

Maheshji, Sorry for the delay in replying to you. WordPress was not accessible in my city for almost two weeks because of unrest in one corner of the country. I myself felt very left out and cut off. Anyway, hopefully, there should be a continuity in publishing my posts and replying to all comments henceforth..
First of all, I feel all the Hindi and Sanskrit words of reverence that are used for worshipping of our pious Gurus such as ‘Param pujya, pujya, koti koti pranam’ ect… should be used only for Shri Shri Param Pujya Mahavatar Babaji and not me. I am too small. I would like to prostrate eternally at the Lotus feet of Babaji. My place is there; Please let me be there.
Now regarding guidance, kindly tell me what can I do for you? You can read the posts and where ever you need to ask something, please do so, I shall surely help you.

  29. Mahesh Vakharia says:

    Nanaskar Sarikaji,
So kind of you for your reply , relieved and felt very very easy .Regarding my using ‘ Parampujya, koti koti pranam” etc , just comes out automatically ,Because by that we become humble and gives us total surrendering feeling towards our respected person who enlighten us on RELIGIOUS matters. That is my notion ,.but still I shall refrain from it , if you feel otherwise. I feel fortunate to have a guide like you on my way to MEDITATIONAL TOURAGE, by you goodselve telling ” what can I do for you ?” Speaks volumes of your soberness.

With all warm regards and due respect

    Vakharia M J __/\__ Namaskar

    • spiritinlife says:

Maheshji, now we pick up from what we discussed last time. You were asking for guidance. So please read the blog and also the comments. I have answered to many questions of some good seekers in this column and they are useful tips for all the bhakts and shishyas-devotees and disciples alike. Keep in touch with the blog activities also.
Regarding what you have just mentioned, please understand that the ego is the biggest hindrance in the evolution of man. Therefore, one should eraze the ego and turn it into like ash or ‘raakh’ and only then one can attain Godhood. And the ego is hidden very trickily inside us it takes us long and also once it is over, then the seeker should foreever remain humble and remember that everyone has the same divine spark and that will one day they all will attain Godhood.

      • Mahesh Vakharia says:

        Sarikaji ,
Thanks lot for your reply , Yes it is well said ” please understand that the ego is the biggest hindrance in the evolution of man. Therefore, one should eraze the ego and turn it into like ash or ‘raakh’ and only then one can attain Godhood”.
So Truethfull. You are very correct that first I should go through
all the reply. I am sorry for this mistake. I should know you are
reply so many persons, hence must be very busy , and still your goodself is answering all the person , very calmly .

Once again I feel sorry for taking your too much time. Please pardon me .

    _/\_ sarikaji

I have read a few articles from your blog.

I keep travelling on the road to Badrinath; but because of my lack of spiritual effort I have not been able to meet any one whom my soul seeks.

Mahavatar Babaji is certainly a big name in the spiritual supermarket and based on my direct experiences in life I feel that certain famous people in Badrinath who claim to be direct disciples of Babaji are just frauds. (my personal opinion)

I have written a few articles and I feel like sharing them with you.

This article is regarding the similarity between the Badrinath idol and Babaji

    • spiritinlife says:

Namaste Bhoj, Welcome on this blog by the will of God and thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
It is a good start by you and I am sure you must have gained a lot of clarity when you have sat down to write your thoughts in the blog-posts.
This world will always confuse you so do not look here and there, it will never be what you think it should be-perfect….people are groping, trying, experimenting and most of them even get deluded on their path to God.
No soul is free unless it has found the Truth inside so learn to go inside and find the ultimate peace within. Only an enlightened Guru can show you the path of God and with the Light and power of that Atmagyani Guru you will be able to penetrate inside…..The realized soul will never project his spiritual earnings and achievements so plead to God to send you one…..
Please read What is Truth-III from this blog and revert if you wish to. At the moment I am not blogging and have taken some days off but I am replying to comments as and when I can.

      Dear Neeta,
Thank you very much in reposing faith in me and telling me that you are unable to maintain a steady routine of your sadhana.
Two things at this stage- The beginning stage of a sadhak is wobbly and hence no discipline. So shake up your routine, eleminate unwanted activities and re-organize a new daily schedule. You will succeed only if you have a firm discipline to do kriya yoga.
I am based in Mumbai but it is premature to meet. I request you to please go through the blog first.

    • spiritinlife says:

@ Preiti, you will find out yourself after reading the blog if it is a good omen for you or not. I leave that to you.
